Municipality of Groningen: registering with the municipality for a short stay

Non-residents are people who do not live in the Netherlands or people who reside in the Netherlands for less than 4 months. You must register to get a citizen service number (BSN). The citizen service number is essential for everyone dealing with the Dutch government.

Registration consists of 3 steps

1. Fill out web form

After completing the form, you will receive a QR code. Take this with you to the counter.

You may also complete the RNI registration form manually and bring it with you. You can find this document on the website.

2. Appointment

You can make an appointment online.

3. Bring with you

  • Valid passport or ID card.
  • QR code you received after completing the form (or the completed and printed form).

Extra in case of a person under 16 years old:

  • Original birth certificate, drawn up in Dutch, English, French or German. If the certificate is in another language, a translation is required. Legalization may also be required.
  • In addition to the minor, at least one parent must be present at the registration.

Your registration is free. You will pay the cost of translating or legalizing any official documents you may need to bring with you.
