Municipality of Zaanstad: deregistering from the municipality in the event of a long stay outside the Netherlands

Are you going to live outside the Netherlands for at least 8 months in 1 year? If so, you must deregister from the Basisregistratie Personen – BRP (Personal Records Database). The BRP contains your personal data, such as your name, gender and date of birth. You can deregister from the BRP through the municipality where you live

If family (grandparents, parents, children or grandchildren) remains behind at the address, you may be asked to come personally with a valid ID and the address details abroad. Notification of a move can be done online by:

  •  yourself if you are olderthan 16 years;
  • married/registered partners for each other;
  • the parent, guardian or guardian of minor children;
  • parents for adult children living at home;
  • adult children for live-in parents;
  • the trustee for a person who has been placed under guardianship;
  • an authorized representative (with a signed authorization).
