Municipality of Nieuwegein: deregistering from the municipality in the event of a long stay outside the Netherlands
You should inform us if you are moving outside the Netherlands for longer than 8 months. Even if you keep your house in the Netherlands.
Who is allowed to report?
- Anyone who is 16 years of age or older.
- Parents, guardians or guardians for children under the age of 16.
- Spouse or registered partner with whom you live. You may report for each other.
- A curator.
In case you are not married or registered partners, you must report separately.

- Valid identity document
Make an appointment at the service desk via Nieuwegein.nl. You must bring:
- Completed form Vertrek naar het buitenland (pdf, 2MB)
- Valid passport, Dutch identity card or residence permit for you and your family
You must specify your new address at the appointment, if already known. You must always specify the country in which you will be living.
You can report the departure of the following people at the same time as you report your own:
- your spouse;
- your civil partner;
- your children;
- your parents.
These persons must be registered with you at the same address.
Do you have a samenlevingscontract (cohabitation agreement)? If so, you and your partner must report the departure outside the Netherlands separately.
Free of charge
You will be deregistered on the day of departure. We will send you a confirmation by e-mail when your emigration has been processed.
