Municipality of Vlissingen: applying for youth care for your child

The municipality is responsible for implementing the Youth Act. Under the Youth Act, various forms of youth care are included.

What is youth care?

Youth care is for children and young people up to 18 years old. Youth care can be provided for psychological problems, parenting problems, or behavioral problems. Youth care is also available, for example, for children or young people with a physical or intellectual disability.
Is the situation unsafe? In that case, someone can also be helped through the Youth Act.

18 years and older

Is help still needed after someone has turned 18? If so, the support through the Youth Act is converted to support through the Social Support Act (Wmo).
Sometimes, youth care is extended, up to a maximum of 23 years.

Before you submit an application to the municipality, there is a step before the Youth Act. This is often forgotten.
Is there another way your request for help can be resolved? For example, through family or the social network. It is also possible to receive support from van Buurtteams Vlissingen. For this support, no permission from the municipality is needed. This help is free of charge. Have you already sought help in these ways? You must be able to prove that you have no other solution than municipal support.

We will have a personal conversation with you about the support request for the child or adolescent. A conversation takes place at one of our locations or at your home. It can also be by phone.
We examine whether it is necessary for the support to proceed through the Youth Act. We are legally required to do this. We always conduct this conversation with the adults who have legal authority over the child or adolescent. We also refer to them as the 'legally authorized representatives'.
