Applying for youth care for your child
If your child needs help growing up or with their upbringing, you can apply for youth care (jeugdhulp) for your child from your local authority. Many local authorities have a local team or neighbourhood team (wijkteam). This team will work with you and your child to determine your child’s needs. For some forms of youth care, you need a referral, for example from a local team or the general practitioner.

Others who know your child well can also refer you to youth assistance. For example:
- a general practitioner, paediatrician or medical specialist (in Dutch);
- certified institutions (in Dutch);
- local teams. Ask your local authority which local teams you can contact.
Would you like help when you apply for youth assistance from your municipality? You can ask the municipality for a client support officer (link in Dutch). Client support officers will help you find the right care, support and youth assistance. They can also come to meetings with you. There, they will help you decide what care or assistance is best for your child.
