Municipality of Hilversum: applying for youth care for your child
You have problems raising your child. You need specialized help with this. You may be able to get youth support from the municipality. Youth support is available for young people up to the age of 18, sometimes up to 23 years.
What do you need to know
- Youth support is help with parenting problems, intellectual disabilities and psychological problems
- Youth support is for children and young people up to 18 years, sometimes up to 23 years
- The municipality is responsible for youth support. This is regulated in the Youth Law
- The amount of help your child receives varies greatly from situation to situation. It can go from 1 hour a week until care is almost completely taken over
- Youth support is usually outpatient. This means that your child lives at home and receives help by appointment. A care provider will come to your home for this. Or at school. Or your child goes to an organization for help during the day
- Sometimes it is better if your child lives (temporarily) elsewhere. For example, in a foster family, family home or other care organisation. This is called youth support with residence
Types of youth support
- Youth support for a disability: Help for a (mild) intellectual disability, sensory disability, physical disability, somatic disorder or psychiatric disorder
- Mental health care (youth mental health care): Help with a mental illness
- Day spending: Spending the day at an organization without care tasks
- Day treatment: Spending the day at an organization with care tasks
- Stay-at-home care: Someone temporarily takes over the upbringing and care. This is called respite care
- Foster care: Foster parents (temporarily) take over the upbringing and care
- Stay in a youth institution: Temporary voluntary or forced living from home with an organization with care tasks

- If the help of Jeugd en Gezin does not solve your problem, contact the Sociaal Plein of the municipality, together with Jeugd en Gezin
How it continues
- You have a meeting with a youth counselor from the Sociaal Plein. This person will look for the best solution together with you and can decide whether you need youth support
- You will be forwarded to the organization that can best help you and make an appointment with them
