Municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul: applying to get married
You register your marriage with the municipality, providing all the details about yourself, your partner and your witnesses. This can be done up to 2 weeks before the wedding date. You can do it online or at the town hall.

If neither you nor your partner live in the Netherlands, you must give notice of your marriage in the municipality of Den Haag (The Hague). You can find more information on how to register a marriage for Dutch citizens living outside the Netherlands at the netherlandsworldwide.nl website.
You can choose from three different ceremonies for your marriage or registered partnership:
A free marriage or registered partnership:
- Only possible if you and/or your partner live in the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul.
- Monday morning at 9:15 AM and 9:30 AM in a small meeting room at the town hall.
- The ceremony lasts a maximum of 10 minutes and only includes the exchange of vows.
- Only the couple and the two witnesses may be present.
A budget marriage or registered partnership:
- Possible Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM in the Council Chamber of the town hall.
- The ceremony lasts a maximum of 20 minutes.
- A maximum of 10 people may be present (including the couple and the witnesses).
- The registrar gives a short, standard speech based on a pre-filled questionnaire.
A regular marriage or registered partnership:
- Possible on any day of the week.
- The ceremony lasts 45 minutes (can be extended for an additional fee).
- You can customize the ceremony together with the registrar.
- You can marry anywhere within the municipal boundaries, as long as the location meets the requirements.
- The maximum number of guests depends on the capacity of your chosen wedding location.
