Municipality of Aalsmeer: applying to get married
You register your marriage with the municipality, providing all the details about yourself, your partner and your witnesses. You can do this online (if you are both Dutch citizens).
You must report your marriage or registered partnership a maximum of 1 year and a minimum of 10 weeks in advance.

If neither you nor your partner live in the Netherlands, you must give notice of your marriage in the municipality of Den Haag (The Hague). You can also find more information on how to register a marriage for Dutch citizens living outside the Netherlands.
- your DigiD;
- a valid identity document or residence permit for you and your future spouse;
- a copy of the identity documents of your witnesses.
If one of you comes from a country other than the Netherlands, the municipality will need additional information. You can call the municipality about this: +31 297 38 75 75.
When you register your marriage, you make a number of choices, which you communicate to the municipality. These choices relate to the ceremony and the venue. The costs depend on your wishes and our possibilities.
Ceremony
The ceremony is the official part of your marriage. You can choose from:
- free wedding;
- budget wedding;
- regular wedding.
Regular wedding
If you opt for a regular wedding, you determine who leads the ceremony. You have the following choices:
- A wedding registrar from the municipality. The registrar will contact you (if you wish) to get acquainted. If you have a preference for a wedding registrar, inform the municipality of this.
- Your own registrar. This is only possible if this person works as a registrar for another municipality.
You can get married in various places. You can choose from:
- The wedding location in the town hall.
- A wedding location of your own choice. You inform the municipality of the location when you register your marriage. There are additional costs associated with a private location.

Once your application has been submitted, the municipality will check whether you are permitted to marry each other. You will receive a confirmation within 10 working days by email with a link to make an appointment. During this appointment, your identity will be verified and you will pay the relevant costs.
