Municipality of Valkenswaard: applying for special social assistance
What is Special Assistance?
- Special assistance is intended for extraordinary costs due to illness, disability, or other reasons, such as glasses, legal aid, or dental costs.
- These are costs that are not part of normal living expenses, cannot be paid by the individual, and are not covered by insurance.
How does it work?
The municipality determines whether you are eligible for special assistance based on the following questions:
- Will you actually incur the costs?
- Are the costs necessary, for example, for medical reasons?
- Can you not (fully) pay the costs yourself?
- Is there no other institution that reimburses the costs, such as your health insurer?
How much special assistance can I get?
This depends on your income and assets. Assets include savings or owning a house. The municipality also considers the income and assets of your family members. Sometimes you have to pay part of the costs yourself.
Can I get a loan?
For certain costs, you can get a loan from the Municipal Credit Bank. This applies to items that last a long time, such as beds and carpets. If you cannot get a loan there, the municipality can provide you with a loan.
What should I do?
Apply for special assistance before you incur the costs. Otherwise, the municipality may reject your application.
You can apply for special assistance online via the ‘Online bijzondere bijstand aanvragen’ button above. You will need your DigiD code for this.
If you cannot submit the application online, contact a staff member of the Work and Income department on weekdays. You will then receive the paper version. The completed and signed form must be sent to us or handed in at the town hall counter, addressed to the Work and Income department.
Additional Information
If you need to incur the same costs for a longer period, you can apply for them all at once. For example, travel costs for a long-term hospital treatment.
Note: Keep all receipts and invoices carefully! You will only receive special assistance if you can show that you actually incurred the costs.
To apply for special assistance online, follow these steps:
- Go to the application page.
- Log in with DigiD: Use your DigiD code to log in and access the application form.
- Fill out the form: Provide all necessary information and details about the costs you need assistance with.
- Submit the form: Once completed, submit the form online.
If you encounter any issues or cannot apply online, contact the Work and Income department for assistance with a paper application.
How long does it take?
You will receive a response from the municipality within 8 weeks.
