Province of Noord-Holland: applying for a permit for construction near a provincial waterway
Are you planning to carry out work or organise an event on or close to a waterway of the provincial authorities? In that case, you have to apply for an environmental permit from the provincial authorities.
The conditions for an application include:
- You are a stakeholder, i.e. you want to erect a structure or perform an activity in, under or over a waterway.
- The waterway is managed by the provincial authorities.
- The structure to be constructed does not impede shipping and does not endanger the maintenance of the waterway (banks and flow).
This is how you apply for a permit:
- Go to the online Omgevingsloket (in Dutch). This is the service counter for environmental and planning permits.
- Do the permit check.
- You will be told whether you need to apply for an environmental permit. You can do this right away.
Costs (charges) may be associated with processing an application for an environmental permit. These fees are set annually by the provincial authorities.
The provincial authorities will make a decision on your permit within 8 weeks. If the provincial authorities deem it necessary, they can extend this period by a maximum of 6 weeks.
If you have applied for a permit and you do not agree with our decision on your application, you can lodge an objection. You will need to do this within 6 weeks of the decision. If you disagree with the decision on your objection, you can lodge an appeal with the court within 6 weeks.
