Province of Drenthe: applying for a permit for construction near a provincial waterway

Whenever you wish to build in, under or over water, it is advisable first to check who the owner of this waterway is. Public waterways may be under the province’s management. You must then apply to the province for a permit or exemption. Such building work includes viaducts and bridges, but also includes a simple jetty, dock or garden shed.

The conditions for an application include: You are an interested party, i.e. you wish to carry out building work or an activity in, under or over a waterway. The waterway is managed by the province. The building work to be carried out does not hinder water traffic and does not jeopardise the integrity of the waterway (banks and flow).

You apply to the province for the permit or exemption.
