Province of Zeeland: applying for an exemption from provincial road traffic rules

Traffic rules apply on public roads. There may be instances where you need an exemption from these rules, because you are organising an event, for example, or perhaps you need to carry out works, or the taxi will need to drive on a bus lane, etc. In that case you can apply to the road operator for an exemption from the rules.

Is the province the road manager? Then apply to the province for the exemption.

Is the province not the road manager? Then first check who the manager is and where you should apply for the exemption:

  • the national government: the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management.
  • the water authority: the general or executive board of the water authority
  • the municipality: the municipal council, mayor and aldermen or a committee set up by the municipality
  • exemptions for national roads in accordance with the Regulations on Traffic Rules and Traffic Signs 1990: Rijkswaterstaat
  • in the case of vehicle requirements: the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW);
  • in the case of car seatbelts and child safety equipment: the Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen (CBR)
