Province of Limburg: applying for an exemption from provincial road traffic rules

If you are a road user, you must abide by the traffic rules. The road traffic rules applicable to public roads are set out in the Road Traffic Act 1994.
Do you wish to be exempt from a traffic rule in the Road Traffic Act? Because you are organising an event, you need to carry out work or because a taxi has to drive in a bus lane? You then apply for this exemption with the road manager. You will then be authorised by the manager to drive a tractor on the bicycle path, for example.
In most cases, the road manager is the national government, the province, the water authority or the municipality. Would you like to be exempt from the Traffic Rules and Signs Regulation? If so, ask the Rijkswaterstaat (Department of Waterways and Public Works) or the Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen – CBR (Central Office for Motor Vehicle Driver Testing).

Among the conditions for submitting an application are the following: the road or waterway is managed by the Province. Conditions vary by type of exemption.

Evidence varies by waiver type.

Do you want an exemption from one of the provisions of the Wegenverkeerswet (Road Traffic Act) 1994? You apply for an exemption with the manager of the road. You can also request an exemption from various provisions of the Regeling voertuigen (Vehicles Regulation) and the Reglement verkeersregels en verkeerstekens (Traffic Rules and Signs Regulation) 1990. In that case, you request the exemption from Rijkswaterstaat or the Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen – CBR (Central Office for Motor Vehicle Driver Testing).

There are no costs involved.

You will receive the decision within 8 weeks from the date we received your application. We can extend this period by 6 weeks. If we require more information, we will suspend the decision period.

If the decision directly affects your interests and you do not agree with the content of this decision, you can lodge an objection. You must then submit a notice of objection within six weeks of the day on which the decision was sent.
