Municipality of Steenwijkerland: applying for an Attestatie de vita (Certificate of life)

Do you need a certificate of life for a foreign institution, such as a pension fund or a benefits agency? If so, you can apply for one at the municipality. This certificate serves as official proof that you are alive at the time of issuance. If you need this document for use within the Netherlands, you will require a proof of life.

The certificate of life is issued in 2 languages: Dutch and French. An appendix provides translations in German, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, and Turkish

Applications

You must schedule an appointment to apply for a certificate of life.

Documents to Bring to Your Appointment

  • A valid form of identification (passport, driver's licence, Dutch ID card, or alien document).
  • If applicable: a letter from the pension fund.

You can apply for an Attestatie de vita from the municipality where you are registered and reside. The application must be made in person; it cannot be done by someone else on your behalf. You will need to schedule an appointment with the municipality.
