Municipality of Emmen: applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs

Please note: you can apply for the compensation for personal contribution to kinderopvangtoeslag (childcare allowance) only if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

You are eligible for compensation if one of the following situations applies to you and your partner:

You receive bijstandsuitkering (social welfare benefits) and are following a reintegration programme to find work.
You receive social welfare benefits and are following a mandatory inburgering (civic integration) programme with an approved institution.
You work and receive supplementary social welfare benefits.
You are studying and earn the minimum wage.
You are under the age of 27, have no basic qualifications and are receiving support from the municipality to return to education.
Your social welfare benefits are going to cease because you have found a job. In that situation, you will receive a one-off payment of € 300,-.

You must meet the following conditions:

You receive childcare allowance from the Belastingdienst (Tax and Customs Administration).
You, your partner and your child are registered with the municipality of Emmen.

You can apply for the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance either online or by telephone.

Print the application form, fill it in and send it by post to Emmen.

Compensation amount

The additional compensation from the municipality is 4% of the hourly rate of the childcare.

Good to know:

The amount of compensation that you can receive is capped. The maximum hourly rate in 2022 is: € 8,50
Some childcare organisations have a higher rate. You do not receive compensation in respect of the difference.
There is also a maximum number of hours in respect of which you can apply for the compensation. That number is 230 hours per month per child.

The municipality will send you a letter within 8 weeks informing you whether you are entitled to the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance. That letter will also state how long you will receive the contribution.
