Municipality of Amsterdam: apply for an exemption to access to a low emission zone
Amsterdam has a low emission zone (LEZ) for diesel vehicles only. Petrol fuelled vehicles can enter the environmental zone without restrictions.
No entry for the following diesel vehicles:
- Cars: diesel cars with an emissions standard Euro 0, 1, 2 or 3 engine.
- Lorries: heavy goods vehicles in category N2 and N3 that weigh more than 3,500 kg with emissions standard Euro 0, 1, 2 or 3, 4 and 5 diesel engines.
- Vans with an emissions standard Euro 0, 1, 2 or 3 diesel engine.
- Coaches with emissions standard Euro 0,1,2,3, 4 and 5 diesel engine.
- Mopeds and motorised bikes (brom- en snorfietsen) from 2010 or earlier that run on fossil fuels.
- Taxis with a diesel engine and a DET (date of first registration) before 1 January 2009.

Exemption
In some cases you can apply for an exemption so that you can access the low-emission zone.
The municipality has different types of exemption:
- day exemption;
- exemption for medical reasons;
- exemption due to financial situation;
- exemption due to delivery time of another car;
- exemption for camper vans and motorhomes;
- exemption in special situations.
