Municipality of IJsselstein: registering with the municipality

You must inform us of your move to the Netherlands in person. You must make an appointment to do this.

Make an appointment

All family members who wish to be registered must come to the appointment with you. This includes babies, young children and elderly people.

What to bring

  • Valid proof of identity (passport of identity card)
  • Rental contract, purchase contract or permission of the main tenant of the address where you live, including a copy of his or her identity document.
  • A removal notification if you come from Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Saba of Sint Eustatius.
  • The following certificates from you, your partner, or kids: 
    - a birth certificate
    - a marriage certificate
    - a divorce certificate
    - a death certificate of your partner

Before your documents can be used in the Netherlands, they might have to be legalized or translated. This is usually done in the country where the documents come from. More information about legalization you can contact the municipality or the Dutch Government.

Registration is free of charge. You must pay the costs of translating or legalising official documents that you may need to take with you.

The municipality will register you in the Basisregistratie Personen – BRP (Personal Records Database) during the actual appointment. You will receive a confirmation letter. The municipality will send your citizen service number (BSN) by post within 3 weeks.
