Municipality of Amstelveen: registering with the municipality

You must personally report your move to the municipality. First, you need to fill in the online form and then you make an appointment online to visit the town hall. You must make this appointment within 5 days of your arrival in the Netherlands. All family members who wish to be registered must come to the appointment with you. This includes babies, young children and elderly people.

  • A valid passport or ID card. 

  • Proof that you have accommodation in the municipality of Amstelveen, such as a rental contract, proof of ownership or written permission from the main occupant (with a copy of their ID document). 

  • If you do not have European nationality: proof that you have submitted an application for residence in the Netherlands to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). 

  • If you come from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint-Eustatius or Sint-Maarten: a notice of relocation (proof of deregistration). 

  • Proof of deregistration from your previous country of residence (if you have one). 

    The following documents, if applicable: 

  • Your birth certificate, if you were not born in the Netherlands. 

  • The birth certificates of your child(ren). 

  • A marriage or divorce certificate. 

  • The death certificate of your partner (as proof that the marriage has been dissolved by death). 

  • Please note: sometimes certificates must first be translated and legalised. Legalisation means that the certificate must be signed and stamped by the country of origin. 

  • You can also submit the aforementioned certificates at a later date, but within 3 months of your appointment at the town hall. 

  • The requested certificates must be drawn up in Dutch, English, German or French. If not, you must have them translated. 

  • Has the document been translated by a translator sworn in the Netherlands? If so, then you do not need to have the translation legalised. 

  • Has the document been translated by a translator sworn in abroad? If so, then you must have the translation legalised in the country of origin.

Registration is free of charge. You must pay the costs of translating or legalising official documents that you may need to take with you.

The municipality will register you in the Basisregistratie Personen – BRP (Personal Records Database) during the actual appointment. You will receive a confirmation letter.
