Municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch: registering a divorce in the civil registry

Where you register your divorce depends on the country where you divorced.

Divorced in the Netherlands

Are you divorced in the Netherlands? Then your lawyer will send the divorce decree to the municipality where you were married. The municipality then registers your divorce.

Your lawyer can send the documents to:

Municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch, Department of Civil Affairs, PO Box 12345, 5200 GZ 's-Hertogenbosch.

Do you live in another municipality than the one where you got married? The municipality will pass this on to your home municipality.

Divorced abroad

Are you divorced abroad and do you live in the Netherlands? If so, you must register your foreign divorce in the basic registration of persons (BRP). You can do this at the municipality where you are registered.

Costs

Registering your divorce with the municipality is free of charge. However, you do pay a fee for applying for a divorce certificate.

How long does it take

The municipality registers the divorce as soon as the documents are received. Only when the municipality registers the divorce in the civil registry is the divorce official.
