Municipality of Vlissingen: registering a death
In the event of death, the funeral director usually handles the registration.
Do you want to register it yourself? Then you do so in the municipality where the person died.
The registration must be done within 6 days after the death; this can be done by a phone appointment via +31 118487000.
Death certificate
To make a declaration, you first need a death certificate. You can obtain this from your GP or attending physician in case of death in a care facility or hospital.
Additionally, you also need your identification document (passport, ID card, or driving license).
- Funeral directors can make the declaration online;
- If it is unclear where and/or when someone has died, then make a Declaration of finding a body.
Death abroad
If a resident of the Netherlands has died abroad, this must be reported to the municipality of residence in the Netherlands. For this, a (legalized) death certificate from the place where the person died is required.
Declaration by surviving dependants
You can register the death yourself. You must do this in the municipality where your loved one died. Make an appointment with the municipality.
Online registration by funeral directors
You can also ask the funeral home to register the death for you. Funeral homes who are located in the Netherlands can register deaths online.
You pay a fee for this service. For more information, contact the municipality.
