Declaration by surviving dependants

You can register the death yourself. You must do this in the municipality where your loved one died. Please make an appointment with the municipality of Maastricht to do so. Call +31 (0)43 350 4040.

Online registration by funeral directors

You can also ask an uitvaartondernemer (funeral home) to register the death for you. Funeral homes established in the Netherlands can register deaths online.

You can register a death online at Aangifte overlijden on the Gemeente Maastricht website.

2024 rates

• Aangifte van overlijden (registering a death): free of charge
• Afschrift van de overlijdensakte (official copy of the death certificate): €16.60
• Verlof begraven of cremeren (permission for burial or cremation): free of charge
• Verlof eerder of later begraven (permission for burial at an earlier or later point): free of charge
• Verlof vervoer naar buitenland / laissez-passer (permission to transport the deceased outside of the Netherlands): free of charge

• As nabestaande (surviving dependant), you receive the extract from the death certificate and the verlof tot begraven of cremeren (permission for burial or cremation) immediately.
• Funeral homes should receive the extract and any other documents on the same working day or the next working day at the latest.
