Municipality of Elburg: registering a death
- The death must be registered before the burial or cremation. You may not bury or cremate the deceased earlier than 36 hours and no later than six working days after death.
- The death is registered by a funeral director or a surviving relative.
Declaration by surviving dependants
You can register the death yourself. You must do this in the municipality where your loved one died. Make an appointment with the municipality of Elburg.
If you come by appointment, please bring:
- Your valid ID.
- The A certificate of death, issued by a doctor or municipal coroner.
- The B envelope with the cause of death certificate for Statistics Netherlands.
- Possibly the marriage certificate to record the death.
- You pay the extract of the death certificate with the declaration.
Did the deceased person live in another municipality? You do not have to report the death to this municipality yourself. This is done by the municipality in which the person died.
Online registration by funeral directors
You can also ask the funeral home to register the death for you. Funeral homes who are located in the Netherlands can register deaths online through eHerkenning.
Registering a death is free. An extract from the death certificate costs € 17,10. (rate 2025)
- As a surviving dependant, you receive the extract from the death certificate and the verlof tot begraven of cremeren (permission for burial or cremation) immediately.
- Funeral homes should receive the extract and any other documents on the same working day or, at the latest, the next working day.
