Municipality of Culemborg: registering a death
Notification of the death of a person is mandatory. Usually the funeral director makes the declaration to the municipality. As a next of kin, you can also do this yourself. You file the declaration in the municipality where the person died.
The funeral director or the next of kin makes the declaration to the municipality. This usually has to be done within 6 days of death. A funeral or cremation must take place no later than the 6th working day after the death. Ask the municipality for permission for a burial or cremation.
What you need for a declaration:
- valid proof of identity of the person making the report
- death certificate
- the envelope with a statement about the cause of death (B-statement for Statistics Netherlands)
- marriage certificate (not required)
