Municipality of Arnhem: registering a civil partnership

Do you or your partner live abroad? If so, more documents may be required. Therefore, before making an appointment, please contact us on 0800-1809. Then we can determine together what you need to bring to the appointment.

Do you both live abroad, and does one of you have Dutch nationality? Then report your intended marriage or partnership in the municipality of The Hague.

Are you both living abroad, and do you both have a different nationality than the Dutch nationality? Then you cannot marry in the Netherlands.

• A valid identification document from both of you.
• A copy of the valid identification documents of the witnesses (minimum 2 and maximum 4 persons).
• If you wish to marry or enter into partnership at a venue of your choice, please bring the application form for approval.
• If you wish to have your marriage performed by a self-selected wedding officiant, please bring the application form for this purpose.
• If you have a Gelrepas and want to use the opportunity to marry for free, please bring your Gelrepas with you.
• If you are under guardianship because of alcohol or drug abuse, you will need permission from the guardian. If you are under guardianship because of your physical or mental condition, the cantonal judge must give permission. You must arrange permission before the appointment and be able to prove it at the appointment.

Make an appointment for registration

During the appointment, you will set the wedding date and location and discuss your wishes for the ceremony.

You pay all costs at the appointment in which you announce your marriage or partnership. So even before the marriage or partnership registration has taken place.

How much you have to pay depends on:

• the wedding venue, the day and time you want to get married.
• your choice of wedding officiant. If you choose your own wedding officiant, it will cost more than if you choose a wedding officiant from the municipality.
• Whether you bring your own witnesses or use a witness from the municipality. If you opt for a witness from the municipality, this will cost €44.60.
• Whether you want a wedding booklet or partnership registration booklet. This booklet costs €31.85.

Entering a partnership for free

In Arnhem, you can get married or enter into a partnership for free on Tuesdays at 1pm and 1.15pm. Free marriage or civil partnership is only possible in the Trouwkamer. The waiting time is 9 months.

Do you have a Gelrepas pass? Then you may also be able to get married or enter into a registered partnership on other days and times free of charge.
