Municipality of Woerden: registering a birth

Inform the municipality within 3 days of the birth of your child. You can do this online with DigiD or at the service desk. For the service desk, contact the municipality to book an appointment.

If you register online:

  • Your DigiD.
  • A birth statement or delivery report from your doctor or midwife.
  • A copy of the acknowledgement certificate (if your child has been acknowledged).

If you register by appointment at the town hall:

  • Your passport or ID card.
  • An acknowledgement certificate (if your child has been acknowledged).
  • A birth statement or delivery report from your doctor or midwife.
  • Your marriage or partnership booklet (if you want your child recorded in it).
  • A parenthood statement in the case of co-motherhood (if the donor is unknown).

Registering online

  1. You register online using DigiD.
  2. The municipality reports the birth to the youth health service (JGZ), the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), and registers your child in the municipality where the mother is registered.
  3. You will receive your child's citizen service number (BSN) by mail.

Registering at the town hall

  1. You make an appointment.
  2. You go to the town hall for your appointment, hand in all the necessary documents, and give your child's first name or names.
  3. The municipality reports the birth to the youth health service (JGZ), the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), and registers your child in the municipality where the mother is registered.
  4. You will receive your child's citizen service number (BSN) by mail.

Registering a birth is free of charge.
