Municipality of Valkenswaard: registering a birth

Who can report the birth?

  • The biological mother
  • The father
  • The co-mother

If they cannot report the birth, someone who was present at the birth must do it. This can be a family member, the midwife, doctor, or maternity nurse.

Sometimes no one is present at the birth and the mother herself cannot report it. In that case, a co-resident of the house where the child was born must report it, or the head of the hospital or clinic where the child was born.

If there is no one who can report the birth, the mayor or an official designated by him will report it.

When to report the birth?

You must report the birth at the town hall within 3 days after the birth of the child. The day of birth does not count towards the deadline. You cannot report the birth on Saturday, Sunday, or a national holiday. In that case, you get an extra working day.
