Municipality of Steenwijkerland: registering a birth
You must register the birth of your baby within 3 days after giving birth. This is free of charge. You must register the birth in the municipality in which your child was born. Inform the municipality directly about the birth of your child. You can do this:

At the municipality's website.
At the service desk
You need to book an appointment.
Online birth registration
To register the birth of your child online, you need:
- DigiD login details of (both) parent(s). The parent(s) must be registered in the BRP.
- Statement from the midwife or doctor. You must upload this.
- Was your child recognized before birth? Then you must upload the certificate of recognition.
- Did you choose a name before birth? Then you must upload the deed of choice of name.
At the service desk
Bring with you to the appointment:
- valid proof of identity of (both) parent(s) (passport, driving license, Dutch identity card or alien's document);
- certificate of birth. You will receive this from the midwife or doctor.
If applicable, please also bring:
- copy of the certificate of recognition if the child was already recognized before birth;
- copy of the deed of choice of name if you made a choice of name before the birth;
- statement from the Foundation for donor data for artificial fertilization. This may apply if the child was born within a marriage or registered partnership of 2 women;
- marriage booklet or partnership booklet.

Registering a birth is free of charge. You pay a fee for a birth certificate. For more information, contact the municipality.
