Municipality of Nijmegen: registering a birth
Inform the municipality of the birth of your child within 3 days. You can do so by booking an appointment.
- You have to register the birth in the municipality where the child was born.
- One of the parents has to declare the birth. Are both parents unable? Then someone who was present at the birth has to declare the birth. This person has to book an appointment. This can be a family member, midwife, doctor or maternity assistant.
- You or the other parent have Dutch nationality. Isn't that the case? Then call + 31 24 329 90 00 to arrange an appointment.
Apart from documents already mentioned at 'Documents needed to register a birth':
- If you have it: marriage booklet or partnership booklet.
- Was the child born with an unknown donor within a registered partnership or marriage between 2 women? Then you need a statement of parentage from Stichting Donorgegevens (website in Dutch, 'Donor Data Foundation').
- Declaration of marital status if you or the other parent live abroad. You can request this statement in the municipality where you live.
Please call + 31 24 329 90 00 to book an appointment.
Registering a birth is free of charge. For a birth certificate you have to pay.
