Municipality of Houten: registering a birth
You must report a birth within 3 days of the date of birth. Is the last day a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday? Then you can also do it the next working day. You can only report a birth if your child was born in Houten.
-
You can report the birth digitally via the button below. You will need:
- Birth or delivery report from the midwife or doctor.
- Certificate of recognition (if applicable).
- Certificate of choice of name (if applicable).
-
If you or your partner cannot report the birth, someone else who was present at the birth may do so in person at the counter. Make an appointment.
-
Do you want to have your newborn child registered in your marriage or partnership booklet? This is possible without a civil servant. The booklet has no official status, but is ceremonial. You cannot prove anything official with it.
Child born with a non-Dutch nationality
Was your child born in the Netherlands and does not yet have a residence permit? You yourself have a nationality other than Dutch. Read more about applying for a residence permit.
Birth registration after death
Did the child die shortly after birth but before the birth was registered? Then you must report the birth and death. You must do both in the municipality where it happened. This means that you may have to report the death in 2 municipalities. The funeral director usually does the reporting.
