Municipality of Arnhem: registering a birth

The following persons can register the birth online:

• The mother
• The duo mother:
  • if she has acknowledged the child, or
  • if she has a declaration of anonymous sperm donation and wishes to use it to establish dual motherhood immediately.
• The father:
  • if he has already acknowledged the child, or
  • if he is married to the mother or has a registered partnership.

As a father or duo mother, do you not meet these conditions? Then you can only declare birth at the counter. You must make an appointment to do so.

Requirements for online registration

• The child you wish to declare was born in the municipality of Arnhem.
• At least 1 of the parents has Dutch nationality.

Bring the following to the appointment:

• Valid proof of ID of the informant.
• A copy of the certificate of recognition if the child has already been recognised before birth.
• Marriage booklet or partnership booklet (if you have one).
• Within a marriage or registered partnership of two women, the co-mother can by law also become a mother. Please bring a statement from Stichting Donorgegevens.

Online registration

In a marriage or registered partnership, only the parent declaring the child needs to log in for the online declaration. In other situations, both parents must log in.

Register a birth

After the birth registration, you will receive your child's Citizen Service Number (BSN) by mail after a few days.

Registration at the counter

For birth registration at the counter at the municipality you must first make an appointment. Are you registering at the counter and does the mother live in Arnhem? Then you will receive your child's Citizen Service Number (BSN) immediately.

The birth registration is free of charge. A copy of the birth certificate (a copy of the civil registry deed) costs € 17,10.
