Municipality of Nijmegen: paying the sewage charge
Please note: you only have to pay rioolheffing (sewage charge) if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.
You pay sewage charge if you own a building on 1 January that is connected to the municipal sewer system or public municipal water.
The municipality determines the value of your properpty every year on 1 January. This is the waardering onroerende zaken WOZ (valuation of your (holiday) home or commercial building). The sewage charge you have to pay is 0,0472% of the WOZ value of your property. The maximum per plot is € 4.720,-.
Payment
You will receive an annual assessment with an amount for sewage charge. You can pay by transferring the money to:

Specifying the following: the number of your assessment.
Paying on time
Pay on time to avoid having to pay extra charges.
Exemption
You cannot apply for an exemption.
Do you disagree with the sewage charge? You can object. Please note: pay your assessment on time, even if you object. If your objection is justified, you will be refunded the costs.
You can object by writing us. Put in your objection:
- your name and address;
- date;
- number of the assessment;
- reason for your objection;
- your signature.
