Municipality of Maastricht: paying the sewage charge
In determining the sewage charge, the municipality makes a distinction between a user and an owner of the property. The sewage charge therefore consists of an owner component and a user component. Therefore 2 rates apply.
Rates
You can find the current rates (in Dutch 'Kosten') on the municipality's website.
Payment
You will receive an assessment notice from Belastingsamenwerking Gemeenten en Waterschappen (joint municipal tax office and water authority, BsGW) detailing the amount of the sewerage charge. The letter tells you how to pay, and before which date you must do so.
Pay on time
Pay on time to avoid having to pay extra charges.
Waiver
You can ask the municipality whether you are entitled to an exemption in respect of (part of) the charge. This is called kwijtschelding (waiver). No waiver is possible for personal sewage charges.
You can apply for a waiver online at Belastingsamenwerking Gemeente en Waterschappen (BsGW).
If you disagree with the amount you are charged you can lodge an appeal through the MijnBsGW portal using your DigiD or an eHerkenning.
