Municipality of Bergen (L): paying the sewage charge

Please note: you only have to pay  rioolheffing (sewage charge) if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

You pay a sewage charge for your wastewater or rainwater that ends up in the sewer. With this, the municipality pays for the maintenance and replacement of the sewer systems.

The Municipalities and Water Boards Tax Cooperation (Belastingsamenwerking Gemeenten en Waterschappen - BsGW) is responsible for all property tax-related matters on behalf of the municipality of Bergen (L).

Payment

You will receive a letter from the Municipalities and Water Boards Tax Cooperation (BsGW) stating the amount of the sewage charge. The letter will state how and by what date you must pay.

Paying on time

Pay on time to avoid having to pay extra charges.

Exemption

You can ask the municipality whether you are entitled to an exemption for paying part of the charge. That exemption is referred to as kwijtschelding. Whether you are entitled to an exemption depends on your personal situation. For more information click on Exemption of payment (municipality) or Exemption of payment (BsGW).

Do you disagree with the sewage charge? You can file an objection via BsGW.
