Municipality of Arnhem: paying the sewage charge
You pay sewage charge (rioolheffing) if you are a property owner and/or user on January 1st of a tax year.
Reduction in sewage charges
The situation on 1 January 2026 determines whether you pay sewage charges for that whole year. Moving house or selling a house does not reduce sewage charges. However, when selling a house, the sewage charge can be settled with the new owner via the notary. The user charge is not settled via the notary.
The sewage charge is a percentage of the WOZ value. The percentages for 2026 are as follows:
| Wie | Percentage |
|---|---|
| Homeowner | 0,0228% |
| User of a property | 0,0223% |
| Owner non-residential property | 0,0734% |
| User non-residential property | 0,0692% |
Paying sewage charge
You pay the sewerage charge via the municipal tax assessment. You usually receive this assessment in February.
