Paying parking tax

Parking your car or other vehicle is not free everywhere and at all times in the Netherlands. In some areas and at certain times you have to pay for parking. By paying for parking you also pay parking tax (parkeerbelasting). If you do not pay for parking where and when necessary you will be charged a penalty. This penalty is called a parking ticket (parkeerbon). If you disagree with the penalty you can challenge it with the municipality.

Sometimes it is unclear whether you have paid for parking, for example if:

  • the parking attendant cannot see your parking receipt in your vehicle’s window;
  • the parking period on the receipt has expired;
  • you have not paid for your parking using a parking app;
  • you have not registered your car’s registration number in the parking app.

You will then receive a notice to pay for parking, plus the penalty.

Do you disagree with a penalty and wish to challenge it? You can contact the municipality that issued it.

Municipality of Goes: Paying parking tax

If you have not paid for parking, you will be charged a penalty. This is referred to as a parkeerbon (parking ticket). You receive this parking ticket from your municipality.

You have recieved a parking fine, what to do?

Strict rules apply in Goes regarding where to park your vehicle. If you don’t obey the rules, you could get a parking fine. This could be a so-called additional assessment fine (Naheffingsaanslag parkeerbelasting) or a so-called Notice of order fine (Aankondiging van beschikking). Which type of fine you have received is indicated on the ticket placed under your windscreen wipers.

Additional assessment fine (naheffingsaanslag)

Paid parking is required in a number of areas. Did you park here without a valid parking ticket or did you pay too little? Then you run the risk of an additional assessment fine. The costs of a parking fine are currently € 53,- plus one hour parking fee. Within a few weeks you will receive by post a copy of the parking fine, a so-called 'duplicaat naheffingsaanslag', provided by the company Cannock Chase.

If you would rather not receive this then you can pay the fine within 5 days at the division Publiekszaken in the main hall at the Stadskantoor Gemeente Goes located at M.A. de Ruijterlaan 2. The only way to pay here is with a direct debit card (pinnen).

Notice of order fine (aankondiging tot beschikking)

This type of parking fine is for parking in a space where it is not allowed. In this case you will receive within a few weeks an acceptgiro payment transfer slip from the Central Judicial Collection Agency (CJIB) in Leeuwarden. You cannot pay this fine through the city.

What happens if you do not pay on time? You will be charged a further penalty.

Do you disagree with the charge? If so, you can lodge a complaint. You can do so by email, post or online. You must do so within 6 weeks.
