Municipality of Hof van Twente: changing your gender on official documents
Please note: you can only change the registration of your gender if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.
You must apply for the change in registration of gender on your birth certificate in person. It is not possible to ask someone else to do it for you.
To apply, make an appointment with the municipality.
By phone
You can make an appointment via: +31 0547-858585
Important after the change
If your birth certificate has been changed, the municipality will adjust the changes in the Basisregistratie Personen (BRP) (Personal Records Database). Government organizations that are connected to the BRP automatically receive the changes. These organizations are for example:
- the tax authorities;
- pension funds;
- Rijksdienst voor het wegverkeer (RDW) (National Road Traffic Agency);
- Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) (Social Insurance Bank);
- health insurers.
You must inform other organizations yourself that your gender and, if applicable, your first names have changed.
Amendment of the registration of your gender on your birth certificate is free of charge. However, you do have to pay for a new identity document (passport, identity card, driving licence).
It takes approximately 2 weeks for the details on your birth certificate to be changed.
