Municipality of Arnhem: changing your gender on official documents
You can change your sex (gender) and/or the given names that appear on your birth certificate. You can do this in the municipality where you were born. In Arnhem you make an appointment for this.
- You are 16 years of age or older.
- You were born in Arnhem.
- You have an expert statement.
Expert statement
The declaration of gender dysphoria must have been issued by a doctor or psychologist affiliated to:
- VU medical centre (VUmc) in Amsterdam
- University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG)
- Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC)
Or another doctor or psychologist designated by the CIBG.
What to bring with you
- valid identification
- expert statement gender dysphoria
After the change, your current passport, identity card and driving licence will no longer be valid. Apply for new identity documents at the municipality where you live.
Make an online appointment.
After changing your gender registration, you may be able to get a reimbursement of the costs for replacing your identity document or driving license.
