Municipality of Vlissingen: exemptions from compulsory school attendance
Compulsory education means that children are required to go to school from the age of 5. As a parent, you must enroll your child in a school. You must also ensure that your child attends school at the prescribed times.
- Children subject to compulsory education must go to school until the end of the school year in which they turn 16. After that, partial compulsory education applies for one school year. In that situation, education is limited to one day a week, possibly combined with work;
- Compulsory education applies to everyone living in the Netherlands. In exceptional cases (on medical grounds), the municipality can grant an exemption after a statement from a doctor or psychologist.
Note. You can only apply for an exemption from compulsory education for your child if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.;
