Municipality of Laarbeek: exemptions from compulsory school attendance
Please note: you can only apply for an exemption from compulsory education if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.
For exemption from registration: If you are unfit for physical or psychological reasons, you need a statement from a doctor, educator or psychologist. The municipality appoints the experts. Do you object to the religious or philosophical orientation of all schools (within a reasonable distance from your home)? Then you must enclose a statement with the notification to the attendance officer showing why you object to all schools in the area. Is your child (or children) going to a school abroad? Then send the attendance officer a letter, stating: proof of enrollment at the foreign school a report or statement from the principal of the school, showing that your child attends the school regularly Parents who move around receive an exemption 'by operation of law'. This means that the exemption, suspension or termination of school takes place automatically. You do not have to request this separately.
