Municipality of Deventer: exemptions from compulsory school attendance
The municipality may exempt your child from compulsory education. This means that he or she does not have to attend school.
Please note: you can only apply for an exemption from compulsory education if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.
The conditions for requesting extra leave are:
- Your child will not be granted extra leave in the first 2 weeks of classes of the school year;
- Vacation leave outside the school vacations is only possible if you, as a parent/guardian, can prove that you cannot take vacations during the school vacations due to the special profession of 1 of you.
The conditions for substitute compulsory education include:
- Your child is in the last year of compulsory education (before his or her 16th birthday).
- Your child is 14 years of age or older. If the child is not in the last year of compulsory education, you must prove that your child is not fit to attend full-day school.

From outside the Netherlands you can call +31 570 69 39 11. From the Netherlands the number is 14 0570.
