Municipality of Bernheze: exemptions from compulsory school attendance
Please note. You can only apply for compulsory education exemption for your child if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.
When a child turns 4, he or she may attend school. From the first day of the month after his fifth birthday, a child is subject to compulsory education. Then the child must attend school. All children remain subject to compulsory education until the end of the school year in which they turn 16. After that, they become "compulsory qualification". This means that young people without a starting qualification have to go to school until they turn 18. A havo or vwo diploma or a mbo diploma from level 2 is a starting qualification. A vmbo diploma is not.
