Municipality of Oosterhout: exchanging a foreign driving licence for a Dutch driving licence

Please note: you must live in the Netherlands and be registered with a municipality to exchange a foreign driving licence. You must hand in your foreign driving licence when you apply. You are not allowed to drive until you have received your new driving licence.

To exchange a foreign driving licence for a Dutch driving licence, you must come to the town hall in person. To do this, make an appointment online or contact the municipality of Oosterhout via the contact form or call +31162489911.

What to bring

  • A valid foreign driving licence.
  • A valid proof of identity (driving licence or passport/identity card).
  • A good-looking colour passport photo, no more than 6 months old, that meets the passport photo requirements.
  • A health declaration: you can request this from the CBR. With the health declaration, a Declaration of Suitability is requested from the CBR.

Follow-up procedure

  1. We will send your foreign driving licence to the Dutch Vehicle Authority (RDW).
  2. The RDW will send your driving licence to the authority that issued the driving licence.
  3. After approval, the RDW will send a Dutch driving licence to the municipality of Oosterhout.
  4. You will receive a letter from the RDW stating that your driving licence is ready.
  5. Collect your driver's license during the municipality opening hours

You pay a fee for this service. For more information, contact the municipality.

It takes several weeks for the licences to be exchanged. You will receive a letter from the Rijksdienst voor het Wegverkeer – RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority) when you can collect your driving licence. You must collect your driving licence in person. You have 3 months to do this after you have received the letter from the RDW. After that time, the driving licence will be destroyed.
