Municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg: exchanging a foreign driving licence for a Dutch driving licence

Please note: you must live in the Netherlands and be registered with a municipality to exchange a foreign driving licence. You must hand in your foreign driving licence when you apply. You are not allowed to drive until you have received your new driving licence.

You can only exchange a foreign driving license by appointment at the Service Center

The fee for exchanging a driving licence is € 51,10

You must pay that fee at the time of application. Please note: you cannot pay in cash, only by debit card.

Your foreign driving license will be confiscated and sent to the RDW for the exchange. You will then not have a driver's license for about 10 working days and you will not be allowed to drive.  You will receive a letter from the Rijksdienst voor het Wegverkeer – RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority) when you can collect your driving licence. You must collect your driving licence in person. You have 3 months to do this after you have received the letter from the RDW. After that time, the driving licence will be destroyed.
