Municipality of Amstelveen: applying for study benefit for students with a disability

If you want to apply for study benefit (studietoeslag), you need to first contact the Social Service Counter. Together with an employee, you will discuss your situation and the conditions for study benefit. If you are eligible to receive study benefit, you will be given an application form. You must then submit the completed application form and all required documents to the Work & Income department.

Contact the Social Service Counter (with DigiD) (in Dutch)

If you do not have a DigiD, you can also call the municipality: +31 20 540 49 11.

Please note: you can only apply for study benefit if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality. You must reapply for study benefit for each new school year.

  • You are registered with the municipality of Amstelveen/Aalsmeer.
  • You do not receive Wajong benefits, which are benefits under the Wet arbeidsongeschiktheidsvoorziening jonggehandicapten (Law on the provision of incapacity benefit to disabled young people).
  • You receive student finance under the Wet op de studiefinanciering – WSF (Student Finance Act) or a contribution on the basis of the Wet tegemoetkoming onderwijsbijdrage en schoolkosten – WTOS (Fees and Educational Expenses (Allowances) Act).
  • You are fundamentally unable to earn an income alongside your studies due to illness or infirmity. You can demonstrate this by means of a recent medical report from a recognised medical examiner. That report shows that you have limited capacity due to your disability. The report may not be more than two years old. If you do not have such a report, then the municipality will assess whether you belong to the target group on the basis of the Verordening loonkostensubsidie (Wage Subsidy Regulation). You must cooperate with any investigation that may be required.

Study benefit amounts

The amount of the study benefit depends on your age. Please visit the government website to find out more about the statutory amounts (in Dutch).

  • A copy of a valid identity document (passport, identity card or residence permit (not a driving licence).
  • A letter confirming the Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs – DUO (education implementation service) grant of your student finance. That can be based on either the WSF or the WTOS.
  • Proof of your studies and educational institution.
  • A copy of a recent medical report.
  • A copy of a bank statement specifying the name of the account and the account number into which the allowance will be deposited.

You will receive a letter with the decision within 8 weeks of your application. If the application form is incomplete or the research requires more time, then the processing of your application may take longer than 8 weeks.
