Municipality of Zutphen: applying for social assistance
Please note: you can only apply for bijstand (social assistance) if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.
Below you can read how to apply for benefits in 6 steps.
Step 1: Make a report
Do you have a question about your income ? Perhaps you've lost your job, are getting divorced, or are struggling to pay the bills? Would you like to discuss your concerns with someone? You can call the municipality at 14 0575 or fill in the form 'Report with DigiD'.
There are also special arrangements for residents with low incomes. These include contributions for sports or school fees, or assistance if you have special expenses for a lawyer or doctor. Read more on the Income Support page to find out how we can help.
Step 2: telephone conversation
We will contact you by phone after receiving your report. To see if we can help, we'll ask you a few short questions. You can also ask us questions at that time.
If we can help you further, we'll schedule an introductory meeting. If the municipality can't help you, we'll refer you to an organization that can.
Step 3: Complete the application form
Are you in the right place? Then we'll send you an application form. Please complete it.
Use this form to apply for income support because you (temporarily) have no or insufficient income and/or assets to cover your own expenses. You'll need to provide information about your family situation, living situation, income, and assets.
Step 4: introductory meeting
The introductory meeting will take place at our office at Henri Dunantweg 1 in Zutphen. During the meeting, you'll meet your income consultant. This consultant will help you with your financial questions, such as benefits and allowances. During the meeting, we'll discuss your needs and discuss your needs. The consultant will also explain what the municipality can do for you and what is expected of you.
If working is possible (in the future), an appointment will be scheduled with a municipal employment and coaching consultant. This consultant will assess your needs and explore the available options, including concrete steps that can be taken towards employment and/or training. Gaining work experience is also possible.
Step 5: Assessment
The income consultant will try to process your application as quickly as possible. Occasionally, the consultant may have a few questions or require documents to complete your application. In that case, we will contact you by phone, email, or letter.
Once the decision has been made, you will receive a letter. You will receive this letter in MyZutphen or by mail. This decision will also be explained to you verbally (step 6).
If you disagree with the decision, please contact your income consultant.
Step 6: explanation of the decision
You'll receive an invitation by mail to discuss the decision with your income consultant. If you've had a meeting about your employment options, the employment consultant will also be present. Together, you'll discuss the decision and the next steps. You can also ask questions. If you receive benefits, the municipality will stay in touch with you.
