Municipality of Dalfsen: applying for social assistance
With a social assistance benefit you can pay the necessary costs of your living. Consider, for example, rent, food and drinks. You apply for benefits if your income is too low to pay these costs yourself.
You can apply for benefits if you meet the following conditions:
- You are 18 years or older. You are Dutch or equivalent.
- You are equated with a Dutch citizen if you come from an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. You are also treated as such if you have a valid residence permit or otherwise reside lawfully in the Netherlands. For example, if you are conducting legal proceedings against a rejection of your residence permit.
- You live or are staying in the Netherlands.
- You have no or insufficient income of your own.
- You have no equity or equity that is lower than the maximum amount. Think of savings or your own home.
- You cannot receive any other benefit. For example, unemployment benefits or disability benefits.
- You are not excluded from the right to social assistance benefits. That is, for example, when you are in prison.
I am under 27 years old
Are you younger than 27 years old? Then you must first report for assistance. After the notification, you will look for work or training for 4 weeks. If this does not work, you can apply for social assistance benefits after this period.
- valid proof of identity for you and possibly your partner
- proof of your income
- proof of your debts
- proof of your assets (assets, such as savings, car, house, shares)
- proof of your employment history (your last employer and start date and end date of your contract)
Do you live with your partner and/or your children under the age of 18? Then you also need proof of their income, debts and employment history
You will receive notification within 8 weeks whether you will receive the benefit. If the municipality requests additional supporting documents, this period can be extended.
Advance payment
You can receive an advance within 4 weeks at the latest if you do not have enough money to wait until the benefit has been transferred to you. The advance is at least 90% of the social assistance benefit. You will continue to receive the advance payment until the municipality has made a decision.
- If you are awarded social assistance benefit, the municipality will deduct the advance payment from your benefit.
- If you are not allocated the social assistance benefit, you must repay the advance.
No advance payment
Are you younger than 27 years old and do you live alone? Or do you live with a partner who is also younger than 27? Then you will not receive an advance for the first 4 weeks. You can only submit the application for assistance after 4 weeks.
The municipality may refuse to give you an advance if:
- it is already clear when you apply that you are not entitled to social assistance benefits
- you provide insufficient supporting documents
- you provide the supporting documents too late
- you do not cooperate sufficiently in the processing of your application
Als u het niet eens met de beslissing van de gemeente, dan kunt u binnen 6 weken bezwaar maken.
