Municipality of Maastricht: applying for a second passport

Please note: you can only apply for a second Dutch passport if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

To apply for a second Dutch passport, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You are a Dutch citizen.
  • Your first Dutch passport is valid for at least another 6 months.
  • You can demonstrate that you need the second Dutch passport.
  • You are travelling to a country that you cannot enter using a Dutch identiteitskaart (ID-kaart).

You must apply for a second Dutch passport in person at the municipality where you live. You must also collect the passport in person.

Urgent application

  • Urgent request
    You can make a spoedaanvraag (urgent request) if you need your travel document sooner. If you apply for the travel document before 14.00, you will receive it within 2 working days at the latest. You pay a surcharge for this type of request.  
  • Immediately
    Do you need your passport today? You may qualify for an emergency passport from the Koninklijke Marechaussee (Royal Netherlands Military Police). You will find more information on the defensie.nl website.

Your passport will be ready for collection from the municipality after 7 days. You have 3 months in which to collect your new passport.

A second Dutch passport is valid for 2 years.
