Municipality of Hoogeveen: applying for a second passport

Please note: you can only apply for a second passport if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

To apply for a second passport, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You are a Dutch citizen.
  • Your first passport is valid for at least another 6 months.
  • You can demonstrate that you need the second passport.
  • You are travelling to a country that you cannot enter using a Dutch identity card.

  • Any passports and ID cards you have. Even if they have expired.
  • Bring written proof if your current passport is with a visa service? 
  • A passport photo (not older than 6 months) in colour. Please note the passport photo requirements

You can apply for a second passport at the municipal desk. You pay at the time of the applicatie (card or cash). You can make an appointment online.

Urgent request

Is six working days too long? Then you can ask for emergency treatment. You will pay a surcharge. If you request urgent treatment before 2 p.m., you can collect the passport the next working day. Do you need the document even faster? You may be able to get an emergency passport from the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. More information can be found at

Your passport will be ready for collection from the municipality after 6 working days. You have 3 months in which to collect your new passport.

A second passport is valid for 2 years.
