Municipality of Amstelveen: applying for a second passport

You can only apply for a second passport if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality. You must apply for a second passport in person. Book an appointment in advance.

You can collect the passport after 5 working days.

Urgent application

Do you need your document sooner than in 5 working days’ time? If so, you can request the urgent procedure. There is a surcharge for this service. If you apply before 14:00, you will be able to collect your second passport no later than 2 working days.

Do you need your document sooner? You may be eligible for an emergency passport from the Koninklijke Marechaussee (Royal Netherlands Military Police). More information can be found here.

To apply for a second passport, you must meet the following conditions:

You are a Dutch citizen.
Your first passport is valid for at least another 6 months.
You can demonstrate that you need the second passport.
You are travelling to a country that you cannot enter using a Dutch identity card.

A colour passport photo that meets the national passport photo requirements.
All the travel documents that you have (both your passport(s) and identity card), even if they have expired. If you have dual nationality, then you must also bring your foreign travel document(s).
A letter written by you with the reason for needing the second passport, for example:
- You have to travel to countries that are in conflict with each other. Add supporting documents such as bookings of trips.
- You travel often while your first passport is at an embassy for a visa application. Bring supporting documents such as bookings of trips. Also bring proof from the embassy stating that your passport is there for a visa application.

Your passport will be ready for collection from the municipality after 5 working days. You have 3 months in which to collect your new passport.
