Municipality of Rijssen-Holten: applying for a new passport or renewing your old one

Please note: you can only apply for a new Dutch passport or renew your old one if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

Do you have Dutch nationality, but no fixed place of residence? Then you can contact a Dutch border municipality to apply for a new passport or to renew your old one.

  • All the passports and ID cards you have now. Even if they have expired.
  • 1 recent passport photo (not older than 6 months). The photographer knows which requirements the photo must meet .
  • Debit card or cash.
  • With a passport or identity card for a child, he or she must also be present at the time of application and collection.

Consent for children

  • For a passport, permission is required up to 18 years, for an ID card up to 12 years.
  • Arrange for permission in advance from both parents (or from the person who has custody of the child). This can be done very easily online.
  • You can give permission for several children at the same time for both a passport and an ID card.
  • You give the online permission before you apply for the passport or ID card at the municipality. 
  • You can apply for the passport or ID card within 3 months of giving permission. After this period, the permission will expire.

You must apply for a passport in person at the municipality where you live. Make an appointment to apply for a passport.

Apply online

You can arrange your application faster by doing part of it yourself online. You also pay online in advance. After your online application, you will come to the town hall by appointment. There you hand in your passport photo and show your old travel document. 5 working days after your application, you can collect your passport or identity card in person at the reception in the town hall.

To start the application online, log in with DigiD. Payment is made via iDeal.

  • Passport from 18 years and older: € 83,85
  • Passport for young people up to and including 17 years: € 63,40
  • Spoedaanvraag (urgent request): € 57,05 extra

After around a week, you can collect your passport yourself from the municipality. This also applies to children up to the age of 18. When you apply, you will be provided with more information about how to collect your passport.

You have 3 months in which to collect your new passport.

Do you need your passport sooner than that?

  • If you need your passport quickly, you can make a spoedaanvraag (urgent request). If you apply for the passport before 14:00, you will be able to collect it the next working day. Allow for some delay if you no longer have your old passport.
  • If you need the passport today, contact the Koninklijke Marechaussee (Royal Netherlands Marechaussee) for an emergency passport.

Validity

  • An adult passport is valid for 10 years.
  • For children up to the age of 18, a passport is valid for 5 years.
